WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another suspected fentanyl dealer has been arrested in connection to an ongoing investigation into a drug trafficking ring operating in Whatcom County.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday, Sept. 26, that it arrested 28-year-old Jamie Lopez Laz Cano for his suspected role in the organization.

The Whatcom Gang and Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on a Bellingham residence on Sept. 25 that led to the arrest. Law enforcement found around 3.5 lbs. of suspected fentanyl powder that they believe to have been intended for resale.

They also found a large amount of money remittance receipts that indicate money laundering.

Lopez Laz Cano was booked into the Whatcom County Jail later that day and remains there without bail.

It’s the latest arrest in the investigation into a Mexico-based drug distribution ring that’s believed to be operating in Whatcom County. The Sheriff’s Office arrested five people in August that were suspected to be part of the organization as well.

That investigation recovered over 70 pounds of suspected drugs and over $60,000 in suspected drug proceeds.
