BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Officials are warning drivers to avoid a section of road in the Happy Valley neighborhood after a collision overturned a tanker truck.

Bellingham Police say that the collision occurred after 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21 on Taylor Avenue between 32nd Street and Douglas Avenue. No further details about what lead to the crash have been released at this time.

The incident spurred the early closure of Joe’s Gardens, the nursery directly adjacent to the crash.

Bellingham Fire Department and HAZMAT teams have been monitoring the tanker that was on its side after the crash for leaks.

BPD adds that it will be several hours until it will likely be righted and towed from the crash site.

It is unclear what the tanker was transporting at the time of the collision and My Bellingham Now has reached out to BPD for further comment.
