The Seattle Kraken lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 last night on KGMI.
The Maple Leafs got off to a 2-0 lead before Jordan Eberle scored to pull the Kraken within one.
But they failed to score in the third period and Jake McCabe scored on an empty net goal with 20 seconds left to secure the game for Toronto.
Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews scored his league-leading 38th goal in the win.
Toronto had lost five of their last six games previous to last night’s win.
It was the fourth straight loss for the Kraken directly after setting a franchise record for consecutive wins.
The Kraken now fall to 19-18-9 on the season with a chance at redemption tomorrow night against the Chicago Blackhawks, who own the second-worst record in the league.
The Seahawks’ search for a new head coach continues.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the team has set up second interviews with five candidates.
Those names include Panthers DC Ejiro Evero, Raiders DC Patrick Graham, Giants OC Mike Kafka, Rams DC Raheem Morris and Cowboys DC Dan Quinn.
Pelissero adds that there will likely be others in what he calls a “thorough process.”
The high scoring Vikings are at it again.
Western Washington University’s men’s basketball team outpaced Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday in a 119-92 win.
It tied the school’s record for most points in a GNAC game.
Junior Kai Johnson led the team with 29 points on 11-15 shooting.
He’s scored at least 25 points in five of his last seven games on the way to earning GNAC Player of the Week honors.
The Vikings now improve to 12-6 on the season and 4-3 against conference opponents.
Meanwhile, Western’s women’s team kept up their hot play.
They beat Western Oregon 77-61 to push their win streak to five games.
The Vikings got off to a 16-5 start after the first quarter and never looked back.
Senior Brooke Walling led the effort with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
They now improve to 14-3 on the season and remain in second place in the conference at 6-1.

The powerhouse Nooksack Valley girls blew out Mount Baker 72-24.
Nooksack boys followed with a 66-44 win over Baker.
Bellingham boys defeated Squalicum 72-67.
Squalicum girls beat Bellingham 62-30.
Sedro-Woolley boys edged Meridian 63-62 thanks to a last second free throw.
And the Sedro-Wolley girls bested Meridian 49-43.
