The Cougs picked up a tight win over the weekend.

Washington State edged Fresno State 25-17 on Saturday thanks to a late-game pick 6 by freshman Ethan O’Connor.

Sophomore quarterback John Mateer struggled in the pass game, completing 17 of 35 throws for 172 yards and a pick, but ran for 46 yards and a score.

It was Wazzu’s first game since their blowout loss to Boise State two weeks ago.

They’re knocking on the door of the AP Top 25 after receiving the 30th most votes in the latest poll.

The 5-1 Cougs will look to make their return to the rankings when they host Hawaii this Saturday. 

 

The Huskies didn’t have as much luck on Saturday, as they fell to Iowa 40-16.

Washington trailed by just 10 points at halftime, but Iowa scored the next 20 points of the game in a brutal second half for the dawgs.

The game gave Huskies fans a taste of classic Big 10 play against the physical Hawkeyes, who ran for 220 yards in the win.

With the loss, Washington dropped to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

They’ll have plenty of time to regroup during their upcoming bye week.

 

The Kraken split their two road games over the weekend.

Seattle took a thrilling 5-4 win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.

Jordan Eberle led the team with two goals in regulation and the winning score in the shootout.

But their luck turned yesterday, when the Dallas Stars shut them out 2-0.

The Stars scored their two goals just 14 seconds apart late in the first period and the Kraken couldn’t get their offense going as they fell to 1-2.

They’re back tomorrow night for the final match of their three-game road trip against Nashville.

The Seahawks just made a move to improve their run defense after a rough showing against the 49ers on Thursday night.

Seattle acquired 8th-year defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick earlier today.

Robertson-Harris will bring reinforcement for a defensive line that’s been banged up over the past few weeks, with Byron Murphy II missing the last three games and Uchenna Nwosu being placed on the injured reserve.

The Seahawks have allowed the third-most rushing yards in the NFL over their three-game losing streak.

 

Only four teams remain in the MLB Playoffs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians each won their decisive Game 5’s over the weekend.

That set up a Yankees-Guardians matchup in the ALCS and a Mets-Dodgers series in the NLCS.

The Dodgers handled the Mets in Game One yesterday, but the Mets stormed back this afternoon to even the series 1-1.

The Yankees open their series against the Guardians in New York tonight.

Meridian beat Mount Baker 27-14.

Lynden edged Squalicum 36-30.

Bellingham fell to Burlington-Edison 28-21.

Lummi lost to Muckleshoot 32-18.

Ferndale took care of Snohomish 27-7.

Archbishop Murphy beat Anacortes 34-28 to snap the Seahawks’ 18 game win streak.

And Sehome capped off the weekend with a 47-25 statement win over Lynden Christian on Saturday.
