The Kraken had their season opener spoiled this afternoon in a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Vince Dunn and Eeli Tolvanen each scored to give Seattle an early 2-0 lead in the second period.

But the Blues answered with three goals in the span of two minutes to take a lead that would hold for the rest of the match.

The Kraken are back on Saturday against the Minnesota Wild for the start of a three game road trip.

The Seahawks are back in the primetime spotlight this week as they look to end their recent woes.

Seattle is hosting their division rival San Francisco 49ers for Thursday Night Football in their third game in just 11 days.

The Seahawks are dealing with a banged up defense after ending Sunday’s game without Byron Murphy, Riq Woolen, Boye Mafe, Derrick Hall and Uchenna Nwosu.

They’ll hope to get momentum behind Geno Smith, who currently leads the league in passing yards.

You can join Allan Fee at The Score Sports Bar and Grill in Ferndale on Thursday to watch along as the Seahawks look to cement their place atop the NFC West.

Kickoff is at 5:15.

The Huskies and Cougs could soon make their move into the national rankings after a wild weekend of college football.

Five of the top 11 teams in the country were upset on Saturday, including four that were beaten by an unranked team.

The Huskies helped the effort with their upset win over 10th ranked Michigan.

That earned them the 36th most votes in the AP’s latest poll.

Meanwhile, the Cougars benefited from a bye week.

They received the 33rd most votes.

Both teams are on the road this weekend as UW travels to Iowa and WSU is at Fresno State.

Western Washington University’s volleyball team is on the verge of turning their nightmare start to the season around.

The Viks won their opening match of the year, but lost their next six to fall into an early hole.

But ever since they beat Alaska Anchorage in their second game in GNAC conference play, the team has won four straight matches, giving them a 5-6 record.

The Vikings swept their last three opponents and haven’t lost a set in over two weeks.

They’ll look to pull their record to an even 6-6 at home this Thursday night against rival Seattle Pacific.
