Four Whatcom County schools are heading to the state football tournament after the dust settled from last weekend’s play-in games.
Lynden, Lynden Christian, Nooksack Valley and Sehome all secured wins to extend their playoff journey, while Ferndale and Mount Baker had their seasons come to an end.
Lynden kicked off the games with a 66-7 blowout victory over Nathan Hale on Friday.
Lynden Christian opened the next day with a 49-0 shutout win over King’s Way Christian, but the win was overshadowed by an injury that ended the game with still minutes to go.
Junior Jacob Penner caught an interception to continue the Lyncs’ dominance, but later went down after making a tackle.
He was taken off the field in an ambulance and was later diagnosed with a concussion, though all reports indicate he is now home and doing well.
Later in the day, Sehome booked their ticket to state for the first time in five years in epic fashion.
The Mariners dominated Chief Sealth 48-17.
Nolan Wright threw for a school record 467 yards and Andre Watson set a Whatcom County single-game record by racking up 345 receiving yards with four touchdowns to boot.
Nooksack Valley was the last of the four teams to secure a spot in the state tournament.
The Pioneers handled Lakeside by Nine Mile Falls 26-3 to advance to state for the third straight year.
Meanwhile, Ferndale fell to Federal Way 38-10 and Mount Baker lost to Zillah 48-28.
Both the Golden Eagles and Mountaineers end their seasons with a 5-5 record.

8th seeded Lynden Christian is hosting 9th seeded Cascade Christian at Blaine High School.
#5 Nooksack Valley is hosting #12 Zillah at Civic Stadium.
#4 Lynden is hosting #13 Fife at Ferndale High School.
And #9 Sehome is on the road against #8 Othello.
The Huskies lost to Penn State 35-6 on Saturday in front of a white-out crowd of over 100,000.
The No. 4 nationally ranked Nittany Lions lept out to a 28-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Washington still needs one more win to become bowl-elible with just two games left in the season.
They’ll have their best chance this Friday at home against UCLA before going on the road to face #1 nationally ranked Oregon to cap off the regular season.
Meanwhile, the Cougs handled Utah State 49-28.
Washington State improved to 8-1 with the win and rose to #19 in the latest AP poll.
The Seahawks are making another shake-up to their linebacker core.
The team waived starter Tyrel Dodson today after starting all nine games in his first season with Seattle.
The Seahawks signed him to a one-year deal in March after he spent five seasons in Buffalo.
It comes after the Seahawks dealt their other offseason linebacker addition Jerome Baker to the Titans in exchange for now middle linebacker Ernest Jones IV.
Rookie fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight and second-year player Drake Thomas are expected to be in line to replace Dodson.
The Kraken snapped their losing streak in an overtime thriller over the weekend.
Jared McCann scored 29 seconds into OT to help Seattle edge the Las Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on Friday night.
Brandon Tanev had two goals and Oliver Bjorkstrand added another score to help the Kraken end their four-game skid.
Next up for Seattle is another home match against the Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow night.
The Sounders have their next opponent set in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Seattle will travel to LAFC on Saturday, Nov. 23, for the Western Conference semifinals in a win-or-go-home match.
The Sounders are the 4th seed in the playoff bracket and LAFC is the top seed after finishing with the conference’s best regular season record, including four wins over Seattle.
The winner will go on to face either the Los Angeles Galaxy or Minnesota United in the conference final.
And it was a tale of two weekends for Western Washington University’s basketball teams as they played their opening games of the season.
Freshman Aidan Rice hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the men’s team a 91-89 upset win over 12th nationally ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills at Carver Gym on Friday.
The Viks followed the next day with a tight 78-75 win over Cal Poly Humboldt to cap off a 2-0 opening weekend.
The women didn’t see as much success after suffering a 76-50 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills in California on Friday.
They put up a better fight on Saturday, but still fell to Cal State LA 63-55 in overtime to bring them back home with an 0-2 record.
The Lady Viks will look to rebound in their home opener tomorrow night against Cal State East Bay.
