District tournament basketball is nearing its end tonight.

The Lynden boys and girls are both looking to continue their undefeated seasons in the 2A District 1 championship games.

First up, the Lions girls are taking on Archbishop Murphy at Mount Vernon High School.

Coverage begins at 5:45 and they tip off at 6:00 on KPUG.

After that, the Lynden boys take the court against Lakewood.

They’ll tip off at 7:45 on KPUG with Dan Kaemingk and Randy Farmer on the call for both.

Also tonight, the Ferndale boys are on the road against Marysville-Getchell for a loser-out game in the 3A consolation bracket.

Last night in district play…

The Nooksack Valley girls ended Meridian’s season with a 64-44 win.

The Pioneers now advance to the 1A district crossover at King’s High School on Saturday with a ticket to state on the line.

The Meridian boys followed with a 62-54 win over Nooksack to send the Pioneers packing.

The Trojans now advance to the district crossover on Saturday with the same stakes.

The Lummi Nation boys blew out Providence Classical Christian 94-25 to move on to the tridistrict semifinals.

The Lummi girls put on a defensive clinic in a 58-15 win over Summit Classical Christian to advance to the tridistrict semis as well.

And the Squalicum boys had their season come to an end in a 60-43 loss to Burlington-Edison.

Huskies basketball is back on the radio tonight.

The UW men are hosting Rutgers in a game that could improve their positioning in the Big Ten.

The Huskies are just half a game back from the Scarlet Knights in the conference standings.

Despite having two of the top prospects in the upcoming NBA draft in freshmen Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper, Rutgers has lost its last three games amid a down season.

UW will look to ride momentum from a tight win over Penn State earlier this week.

Coverage begins at 7:00 and tipoff is at 7:30 on KGMI.

Meanwhile, the Gonzaga and Washington State men are facing off in a cross-state rivalry match tonight.

The Zags are looking to win their fifth straight and make a push back into the AP Top 25, while the struggling Cougs have lost six of their last seven.

That game tips off at 6:00 from Beasley Coliseum in Pullman.

The Seattle Storm made another trade to continue their busy offseason.

Seattle sent a pair of second-round draft picks to the LA Sparks in exchange for guard Lexie Brown and a 2025 third-rounder.

Brown was the No. 9 pick in the 2018 draft and won a championship with Chicago.

She appeared in 16 games with the Sparks last season, where she averaged 8 points and 3 assists per game.

The Storm locked down two key starters earlier this month, resigning Nneka Ogwumike and Gabby Williams for the upcoming season.

They also signed 2023 Sixth Woman of the Year Alysha Clark, who won a pair of championships with the Storm in 2018 and 2020, before winning another with the Aces in 2023.

She’ll look to help fill the shoes of star Jewell Loyd, who Seattle dealt for the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft.

Western Washington University’s track and field program put on another dominant performance yesterday.

Their men’s and women’s teams swept the GNAC indoor championships for the second straight season.

The Viking men finished with 143 points, more than 25 points ahead of second-place Central Washington.

Senior runner Kevin McDermott led the way, winning the 3000m and 5000m races for the second straight year.

The Viking women finished with 143 points as well, nearly 30 points ahead of second-place Central.

Four of their runners won individual races, including junior Bec Bennett, who set the meet record in the 400m race.
