It was a mixed bag for Lynden at the district championships last night.

The Lynden girls overcame a tight first quarter and beat Archbishop Murphy 52-36 to continue their undefeated season and book their ticket to state.

Finley Parcher and Payton Mills led the way for the Lions, combining for 41 of their 52 points.

It was a much closer night for the Lynden boys, who lost 50-49 on a last-second three-pointer by Lakewood.

It was the Lions first loss of the season.

They now fall to the district consolation bracket, where they’ll face the winner of tonight’s game between Archbishop Murphy and Burlington-Edison in a loser-out match on Saturday.

Coming up tonight, the Squalicum girls are fighting for their season in a loser-out match against Burlington-Edison.

They’ll tip it off at 6:00 from Mount Vernon High School.

A win would send the Storm to the final game of the consolation bracket, where they’d face Archbishop Murphy on Saturday with a spot at state on the line.

Meanwhile, the Lummi boys and girls are both continuing their journey through the tridistrict tournament.

The Blackhawk girls are up first as they face Crosspoint Christian in the semifinals.

They tip off at 5:45 from Mount Vernon Christian High School.

After that, the Blackhawk boys take the court against Summit Classical Christian with a chance to go to the tridistrict championship.

 

The Huskies men couldn’t come out on top in a nail-biter last night.

Washington lost to Rutgers 89-85 in overtime in the first-ever meeting between the programs.

Rutgers freshman and top NBA draft prospect Dylan Harper scored 34 points to snap their three-game skid.

Mekhi Mason and Zoom Diallo each led the Huskies with 20 points apiece.

UW will look to rebound when they travel to play Iowa on Saturday.

Also last night, the Gonzaga men topped Washington State 84-63 to pick up their fifth straight win.

The Huskies women are back in action tonight as they host San Francisco at 6:00.

And the Cougs women are looking to snap a three game skid when they host Rutgers, also at 6.

 

The battle for North America is on as the United States hockey squad takes on Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship tonight.

Team USA won their first matchup 3-1 on Saturday and the meeting was nothing short of chaotic with three fights in the first nine seconds.

Now, Canada will get another shot after holding off Finland earlier this week.

Team USA hockey hasn’t beaten Canada in a best-on-best tournament final since the 1996 World Cup.

The puck drops at 5:00 tonight on ESPN.

 

The Mariners have announced new broadcast teams on the radio and TV for the upcoming season, but the voices will be more than familiar for fans.

Rick Rizzs will continue to be the voice of the Mariners on the radio, with Gary Hill moving up to be his on-air partner.

On ROOT Sports TV, Aaron Goldsmith is taking over as the primary play-by-play broadcaster with a rotating crew of analysts.

The announcement follows the departures of longtime play-by-play man Dave Sims, who went to the Yankees, and analyst Mike Blowers.
