The Meridian boys had their Cinderella run ended this morning in the 1A State Tournament Round of 12.

The 10th-seeded Trojans lost to 7th-seeded Seton Catholic 72-60 at the Yakima SunDome.

Junior guard Talon Jenkins led Meridian with 25 points and Jaeger Fyfe added 11.

Brady Angelo led Seton Catholic with 25 points in the win.

Meridian made an unexpected postseason run after finishing 12-10 in the regular season.

They edged Nooksack Valley by just two points in the District 1 second-place game to secure a spot in the state tourney before beating Life Christian Academy in the opening round last Friday.

Seton Catholic now moves on to face top-seeded Zillah in the quarterfinals.

 

Also today, the 11th-seeded Lummi Nation girls are facing 6th-seeded Oakesdale at 3:45 p.m. in the 1B bracket.

Winner will play 4th-seeded Crosspoint tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the top-seeded Lummi Nation boys are putting their 22-game win streak on the line against 7th-seeded Mossyrock in the quarterfinals at 10:30 tomorrow morning.

The top-seeded Lynden boys are hoping to continue their path to a third straight 2A title against the winner of 7th-seeded Rogers vs 10th-seeded Sammamish. Coverage begins at 5:15 and tipoff is at 5:30 on KGMI.

And the third-seeded Lynden Christian girls wrap up the night by playing the winner of 4th-seeded King’s vs 13th-seeded Eatonville. Coverage begins at 7:00 and tipoff is at 7:15 on KPUG.

 

The Seattle Mariners lost to the Kansas City Royals 9-7 today in Peoria after fumbling an early lead.

Logan Gilbert started the game off with two strong innings of no-hit ball and the Mariners got off to a quick 5-0 advantage behind a 3-run homer from Cal Raleigh.

Kansas City rallied for six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.

The M’s answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Ryan Fitzgerald hit a 3-run home run in the eighth inning to deliver the Royals their fourth win of spring training.

Seattle now falls to 1-3 with one tie.

 

And a former Mariner is joining another contender in the American League.

The Baltimore Orioles signed infielder Kolten Wong to a minor league contract today.

Wong was traded to the Dodgers from Seattle last season after hitting .165 in 67 games with the M’s. 

The 33-year-old won a pair of Gold Gloves with St. Louis earlier in his career.
