The Western Washington University women’s basketball team is heading to the national tournament.

The Vikings edged out rival Montana State Billings 54-52 on Saturday to repeat as GNAC tournament champions.

The second-seeded Vikings trailed for most of the second half before a three-pointer from senior Stephanie Peterson tied the game with just under six minutes left.

Sophomore Mason Oberg came up big with a pair of late threes that put Western up with just under a minute to go.

The Yellowjackets went on to hit a pair of game-tying free throws, but tournament MVP Brooke Walling made a go-ahead layup with 42 seconds left to give the Vikings the win.

Walling and Oberg each led the team with 17 points.

Peterson added 8 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and three steals to fill up the stat sheet.

The Vikings earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II tournament.

They’ll face sixth-seeded Cal Poly Pomona in Azusa, California this Friday at noon for their opening-round matchup.

Russell Wilson has a new home in Pittsburgh.

The nine-time Pro Bowler and former Seahawk plans to sign a one-year deal with the Steelers for the veteran’s minimum of $1.2 million.

The Denver Broncos announced their intention to release Wilson this Wednesday and will pay him the rest of his $37.8 million salary while he plays for the Steelers.

Wilson heads to a Pittsburgh team with former 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett as the starter for most of last season.

Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett has agreed to a restructured contract that will lower his cap hit for this season.

Lockett previously had two years and a non-guaranteed $34 million left on his 2021 extension.

He’ll now make at least $30 million over the next two years amid speculation that he could be a cap casualty along with Jamal Adams and others.

Lockett has the second-most career receptions and receiving yards in Seahawks history.

J.P. Crawford hit a 2-run homer for his first of the year.

They’ll have a chance to rebound tomorrow against the Oakland Athletics.

The Seattle Kraken lost to the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 on Friday.

Neither team managed a goal in the first two periods.

But the Jets scored a flurry of three goals in the third to win their 40th game of the season.

Kraken forward Jaden Schwartz missed the last two periods after suffering an upper body injury early in the game.

Vince Dunn also missed his second straight game after taking an ugly hit in last week’s game against Calgary.

The Kraken are back against Las Vegas tomorrow night on KGMI.

The Sounders had their game postponed on Saturday because of unplayable conditions near Philly.

Their game against Philadelphia Union was paused at 0-0 in the 6th minute due to a waterlogged pitch.
