The Seattle Kraken beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 last night thanks to a game-winning goal from Andre Burakovsky with just under three minutes left.

Jared McCann had a goal and two assists in the win, Justin Schultz and Tomas Tatar also scored for the Kraken.

The Kraken have won four of their last five games as they reach a key stretch in their hunt for the playoffs.

They’re currently six points behind the last spot in the Western Conference.

Seattle will rematch Winnipeg on Friday night in the first of a five game homestand.

 

The Kraken also made a big move ahead of Friday’s trade deadline.

Seattle sent center Alex Wennberg to the New York Rangers for a second-round pick in 2024 and a fourth rounder in 2025.

Wennberg is Seattle’s 5th all-time leading scorer.

He’s in the final year of a three-year deal that pays him $4.5 million annually.

ESPN reports that Seattle had talks with Wennberg about an extension, but he wanted a longer-term deal.

 

The Mariners bounced back from a rough patch in Cactus League play today.

They beat the Kansas City Royals 8-7 to snap an eight-game winless streak. 

Bryce Miller allowed two runs and struck out two in just over two innings pitched.

The game was highlighted by a 5-run sixth inning.

The M’s improve to 2-9 in spring training ahead of tomorrow’s matchup against the Los Angeles Angels.

A former catcher for the Mariners announced his retirement today.

Mike Zunino is calling it a career after 11 seasons in the MLB.

Zunino spent his first six years with the M’s before going on to make an All-Star appearance with the Rays.

He joins Nelson Cruz as notable Seattle players that have retired this offseason.

 

We’re in for a big cross-state college basketball matchup tomorrow evening.

The Washington State Cougars are hosting the Washington Huskies in the last regular season game for both teams.

The 18th-ranked Cougars are in second place in the Pac-12 standings, just half a game behind Arizona who they’ve beat twice this year.

The Huskies are sitting at ninth in the conference.

The Western Washington University men’s team had three players earn postseason honors.

Junior guard Kai Johnson was a unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection after leading the conference with 21.6 points per game.

Junior guard Will Wilson was voted honorable mention and Tijan Saine was chosen as GNAC Freshman of the Year.

The Vikings finished the season with a 17-12 record, 9-9 against conference opponents.
