Mike Hopkins is out as coach of the University of Washington basketball team just a day after the team’s upset win over their rival Washington State.

The Huskies edged out the 18th-ranked Cougars 74-68 last night in the last Pac-12 Apple Cup.

The Cougs were hoping to win their first Pac-12 title since 1941, but their loss paired with Arizona’s win sealed the regular season title for the Wildcats.

Sophomore guard Koren Johnson led the Huskies with 23 points and Keion Brooks Jr. added 22 in the win.

Following the win, the school announced that Hopkins will not return as head coach after the season ends.

Hopkins is 118-105 over seven seasons with the Huskies, including one NCAA tournament appearance in 2019.

He has one full year remaining on his deal and will be owed nearly $3.1 million for the remainder of his deal.
