The Mariners are back for the middle game of their series against the Kansas City Royals tonight.

The M’s beat the Royals 6-2 in the series opener last night thanks to home runs from Ty France and Luke Raley.

George Kirby got the team off to a strong start with seven scoreless innings to earn his fourth win of the season.

The game was highlighted by a lucky fan who caught foul balls on back-to-back pitches to Josh Rojas.

The Mariners will look to secure the eighth series win of their last nine tonight with Logan Gilbert on the mound.

The Mariners announced today that they’re sending relief pitcher Tyson Miller to the Cubs.

They’ll receive Triple-A third baseman Jake Slaughter, who has yet to take a major league at-bat, and cash considerations in the deal.

Miller threw 11 and two-thirds innings with Seattle this season with four earned runs allowed and 12 strikeouts.

The news comes as Scott Servais announced that shortstop JP Crawford and outfielder Dominic Canzone are both likely to return to the team at some point during the team’s upcoming East Coast road trip which begins on Friday in Baltimore.

 

The Vikings softball team continues to roll through the postseason.

Western beat Cal State Dominguez Hills 4-3 today on a walk-off walk to take Game One of the Super Regional round.

Third baseman Maleah Andrews got the team off to a strong start with a leadoff home run.

Cal State Dominguez answered with a 3-run homer in the third to take the lead.

Western managed two more runs to tie it heading into the seventh, where Emma Andrewjeski-Ramirez drew a bases-loaded walk to deliver the win.

Game Two will be played at noon tomorrow at Viking Field. 

If the Vikings lose, they’ll play Game Three right after at 2:30.

Winner of the series will head to the NCAA Championships Finals in Longwood, FL as one of the eight teams left competing for the national title.

 

And girls flag football at schools will have to wait here in Washington.

An amendment that would have added the sport to the list of sanctioned school activities was voted down by the WIAA this week.

It comes just weeks after the Bellingham School District received part of a $24,000 grant by the Seattle Seahawks to support the growth of high school girls flag football.
