A pair of Whatcom County soccer teams got wins at the 2A state tournament yesterday.

Squalicum beat R.A. Long 2-0 and Sehome beat Tumwater 8-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The seventh-seeded Storm will now face second-seeded Franklin Pierce on Saturday.

The top-seeded Mariners will host eighth-seeded Fife at Civic Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

They’re on opposite sides of the bracket as part of the final eight teams of the tournament.

 

Western Washington University’s softball team has their next matchup set after yesterday’s thrilling win.

The sixth-seeded Vikings are taking on third-seeded Wilmington at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in the first round of the NCAA Division II World Series in Longwood, Florida.

The Vikings will put their 48-9 record on the line in a match against the 45-14 Wildcats, hailing from Delaware.

It’s the first game of a double elimination bracket that will send one school from the four-team pod to the best-of-three World Series final.

All the games will be streamed for free on the NCAA’s website.

It comes after the Viks rallied back from a 6-0 deficit in the final game of the Western Regional Championship yesterday thanks to a walk-off homer by freshman Maleah Andrews.

 

Lynden is playing Sedro-Wooley tomorrow night in the 2A District 1 fastpitch softball championship.

The third-seeded Lions will look to clinch a spot in the state tournament.

If they lose, they’ll go to the consolation bracket for one more chance at state.

First pitch is at 6:30 tomorrow at Janicki Fields in Sedro-Woolley.

 

The Seattle Seahawks’ full schedule has been announced.

The Seahawks kick off the season at home on Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Denver Broncos.

They have one Monday night game in Week 4 in Detroit against the Lions.

They have a pair of Thursday night games against the 49ers and the Bears.

The Seahawks also have a Sunday night primetime matchup at home for the Packers in Week 15.

They’ll end the season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams.

 

And the Sounders fell to Real Salt Lake 2-0 yesterday.

The loss snapped the Sounders’ four-game unbeaten streak as they dropped to 3-4-6 on the season.

The win extended Real Salt Lake’s undefeated streak to nine straight league matches.
