The Mariners used a big ninth inning to even up their series in Minnesota yesterday.

The M’s scored four runs in the ninth in their 10-6 win over the Twins.

Cal Raleigh highlighted the night with a pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning for his ninth homer of the season.

Mitch Haniger also had a solo shot in the second inning, his fifth of the year.

Emerson Hancock struggled in the start, allowing four runs through four innings.

Ryne Stanek got two outs for the win after Taylor Saucedo got hurt while covering first base.

The M’s are back this evening in the third of the four-game series with George Kirby on the mound.

The Kraken earned the eighth overall pick in last night’s NHL draft lottery.

It’s the third time they’re picking in the top-10 as they head into their fourth draft as a franchise.

They’ll also have two second- and third-round picks in the upcoming draft.

The San Jose Sharks won the first overall pick after finishing last in the league.

The NHL draft takes place on June 28 and 29 at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

 

The WWU Vikings are kicking off the regional softball tournament tomorrow.

The top-seeded Vikings will host eighth-seeded Azusa Pacific at noon at Viking Field in the opening game of the NCAA D-II West Regional Championships.

The tournament is double-elimination and will run through Saturday, with the winner advancing to the Super Regional round.

The Vikings enter the tournament with a program-best 42-7 record.

They’re hosting all the games of the sub-regional round at Viking Field, but fans can also catch the games live on WWU Athletics’ Youtube channel.

 

Squalicum upset Sehome in the 2A District 1 soccer championship last night at Civic Stadium.

Junior Sebastian Cruz Gonzalez scored the game-winning goal in shootouts to deliver Squalicum their first district title since 2014.

It was the Mariners’ first loss since May 26, 2023, snapping a 17-game unbeaten streak.

Squalicum now advances to the 2A state tournament, while Sehome will face the winner of Bellingham vs Anacortes with a chance to join the Storm at state.
