A Major League Baseball icon has passed away.

Willie Mays died peacefully yesterday afternoon at the age of 93, according to his son.

The San Francisco Giants center fielder and 24x All-Star is considered one of the greatest players of all time.

He played from 1948 to 1973, missing one year after he was drafted by the army to serve in the Korean War.

His signature moment, known as “The Catch,” in the 1954 World Series is one of the most famous plays in baseball history.

Mays was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2015.

The league announced that each game today will feature a moment of silence to honor him.
