Today KPUG and the Cascade Radio Group family are remembering longtime broadcaster and Whatcom County sports legend Mark Scholten.

Today would have been Mark’s 55th birthday after his passing last August.

He spent more than 30 years on Bellingham radio and was known for his knowledge and dedication to Whatcom County high school teams, their athletes and coaches, as well as his love for Dick’s Burgers.

Happy birthday Mark.

The Mariners fell to the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 this afternoon in the last match of their three-game series.

Dylan Moore hit a 2-run homer in the first to start the M’s off strong before the Guardians evened it up with two runs of their own.

Ryan Bliss hit an RBI double in the fourth to score Ty France, but it was all Cleveland from there to secure the series win for the AL-Central leaders.

Luis Castillo was sent packing with five runs allowed through five innings to drop to 6-8 on the season.

The Mariners still hold a commanding 8.5-game lead over the Rangers and Astros for first place in the AL West.

They’ll continue their road trip tomorrow with George Kirby on the mound against the Miami Marlins.

Coverage begins at 3 p.m. and first pitch is at 4:10 on KPUG.
