The Mariners are back against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight after collapsing in a late-game defeat.
The M’s were up 3-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning last night when the Rays rallied to score three runs off reliever Austin Voth to steal the win.
Cal Raleigh and Mitch Garver each homered for Seattle in the loss.
Bryan Woo left in the fourth inning with right hamstring tightness.
The team put him on the 15-day injured list after an MRI today.
It’s just the latest setback for Woo, who’s had a stellar season after spending the first month on the injured list with elbow inflammation.
The Mariners will look to rebound with Luis Castillo on the mound today in the second of their three-game series.
First pitch is at 3:50 on KPUG.
The Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup champions.
The Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 last night to secure their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Carter Verhaeghe scored a goal and assisted on another to help the Panthers avoid collapsing after starting the series with a 3-0 lead.
The Oilers’ Connor McDavid still won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after leading all postseason scorers with 42 points.
That was five shy of the all-time record set by Wayne Gretzky in 1985.
Registration is now open for this summer’s Seahawks training camps that are open to fans.
All nine practices take place at their headquarters in Renton between July 24 and August 8, with most of them starting at 1 p.m.
There’s also a Seahawks Football Fest at Lumen Field on August 3.
The team says fans who attend the events will have the chance to get autographs from players, coaches and Seahawk legends.
You can register for those training camps here.
And Washington State has named a new athletic director.
The Cougs announced today that Anne McCoy has been named as their new AD after holding the interim role for the past three months.
McCoy has worked as Washington State since 2001 before being promoted in March when Pat Chun left to take the same position at the University of Washington.
She’ll be charged with leading Wazzu through an uncertain future as they and Oregon State decide the next steps as the only two remaining members of the Pac-12 Conference.
Both schools will compete as affiliate members of the Mountain West Conference in several sports this upcoming season.
