The team placed Dominic Canzone on the 10-day injured list after he strained his hip in yesterday’s game.

The Sounders edged Sacramento Republic 2-1 last night in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals.

The Sounders got off to a quick 2-0 lead before Sacramento closed the gap to one.

They almost tied the game in the 88th minute, but were offside, so the goal didn’t count.

The Sounders now find themselves in their first U.S. Open Cup semifinal since 2014.

Gregg Berhalter has been fired as manager of the United States men’s national team.

It comes after a poor showing where the US couldn’t get past the group stage with losses to Uruguay and Panama.

The process has already begun for the team’s next coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

 

Lionel Messi scored his first goal of the Copa America tournament to lead the defending champion Argentina over Canada 2-0 in the semifinals yesterday.

Argentina plays the winner of Uruguay vs Colombia for the title on Sunday in Florida.

Meanwhile, Spain has reached the European Championship final with a 2-1 victory over France.

16-year-old Lamine Yamal became the youngest-ever scorer in the history of the tournament. 

Spain, which is chasing a record fourth European Championship title, will play England or the Netherlands in the final on Sunday in Berlin.

 

A former Seattle prep basketball star has pled guilty to a federal conspiracy crime.

Former Toronto Raptors center and Nathan Hale alum Jontay Porter was banned from the NBA earlier this year for betting on games.

He admitted in court today that he schemed to take himself out of games for people to win bets on his performance.

His prison sentence is set for December 18, where he’s estimated to spend 3.5-4 years in prison.

Jontay and his brother Michael led Nathan Hale to a perfect 29-0 record and the 3A state title in 2017.

 

And the Bellingham Bells played a nearly perfect game yesterday.

The Bells dominated the Cascade Collegiate League Showcase Team 19-0 in their first non-West Coast League match of the season.

Seven batters scored multiple runs for the Bells, who continue their stretch of non-league games tonight against the NW Star Nighthawks.
