The Mariners are off today after beating the Phillies in a best of three series over the weekend.

Seattle took the first two games against Philly to extend their losing streak to six games.

Mitch Haniger highlighted the wins with a walk-off walk in the 10th inning of Saturday’s game.

But the Phillies roared back to avoid the sweep, stumping Seattle with a 6-0 shutout win at T-Mobile yesterday.

Philly ace Zach Wheeler threw eight scoreless innings in the start and the Mariners managed just three hits and a single walk in the loss.

Seattle still holds a one-game lead over the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West.

They’ll start their next series at home against the Detroit Tigers tomorrow with Luis Castillo on the mound.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Geno Smith practiced today for the first time since injuring his knee and hip last week.

He had missed three practices after taking a hard hit last Tuesday.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports that Geno didn’t have any visible brace on his knee and didn’t appear to run with any limp.

Initial testing didn’t show any serious injuries for the Seahawks’ starting QB.

Another former member of the Seahawks’ secondary is heading East.

Veteran free agent Quadre Diggs and the Tennessee Titans agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million yesterday.

The move reunites Diggs with former Seahawks teammate Jamal Adams, who said he and Diggs had talked every day over the summer break and hoped to be teammates again.

The Seahawks released both Diggs and Adams in March in an effort to free up salary cap space.

The United States’ lead has grown at the Paris Olympics.

The US has 78 medals, including 20 gold, to lead all countries.

Second-place China has the most gold medals with 21, but is a ways back from the US with 53 after today’s tally.

It comes as 2021 Sehome High School alum Jonas Ecker is making his Olympic debut early tomorrow morning.

He’ll race with his partner, fellow UW athlete Aaron Small, in the men’s kayak 500 meter heats at 2:30 am local time and individually in the 1,000 meter heat at 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

Three western Washington Olympians have already won gold medals so far, including Vancouver gymnast Jordan Chiles, who also won a bronze this morning.

The Seattle Sounders fell to Necaxa 3-1 yesterday in group stage play of the Leagues Cup.

Necaxa got the best of Seattle in the mid-season tournament that pits all 29 MLS clubs against the Mexico-based Liga MX teams.

Seattle now drops to 1-1-0 ahead of Thursday’s match against the LA Galaxy in the tournament’s Round of 32.

The Bellingham Bells won a pair of key games in their last regular season series at Joe Martin Field.

The Bells took two out of three against the Victoria HarbourCats over the weekend to improve their positioning in the North Division standings.

Bellingham won the opener 8-1 on Friday to halt Victoria’s nine-game win streak.

The HarbourCats took Saturday’s match 11-3, before the Bells won yesterday’s rubber match 3-2 thanks to a go-ahead RBI single by Trent Mallonee in the sixth inning.

The Bells are now tied with Victoria for second place in the North, sitting just two games behind first-place Wenatchee.

They’ll make their final playoff push on the road this week against the Springfield Drifters, who own the worst record in the West Coast League over the second half of the season.

First pitch for tonight’s series opener is at 6:35 from the Hamlin Sports Complex in Springfield.
