The Mariners are looking to even up their series against the Tigers tonight in a duel of heavyweight pitchers.

It comes after the M’s offensive struggles returned yesterday in their 4-2 loss to Detroit.

Seattle managed just five hits and two walks and struck out 14 times.

Luis Castillo gave up three runs through six innings in the start to drop to 9-11 on the season.

Luke Raley homered and Jorge Polanco drove in their other run in the loss.

Tonight’s matchup features two of the top young pitchers in the league.

Seattle’s George Kirby is facing off against Detroit’s Tarik Skubal, who is currently the odds-on favorite to win the AL Cy Young award.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Bellingham-native Jonas Ecker continued his run through the Paris Olympics today.

The Sehome High School alum finished fifth in the quarterfinals of the individual men’s kayak 1,000-meter race this morning and did not advance.

But he has one more chance to medal this Friday, when he and his teammate Aaron Small compete in the 500-meter kayak heats semifinal at 2:10 a.m. local time.

The top four finishers will advance to the medal round at 4:20 a.m.

Meanwhile, the United States are still sitting pretty after Day 12 of the Olympics.

The U.S. leads all countries with 94 total medals, including 27 gold.

China and France are second and third at 65 and 51 total medals, respectively.

American sprinter Quincy Hall highlighted today’s action with his out-of-nowhere comeback in the 400 meter race to bring home gold.

The U.S. women’s basketball team ran by Nigeria to win their 59th straight Olympic match and advance to the semifinals.

The men are playing reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Serbia at noon tomorrow for a chance to reach the gold-medal game.

The Seahawks are getting a much-needed boost to their offensive line.

Veteran o-lineman Connor Williams has agreed to a one-year deal with Seattle that’s worth up to $6 million.

Williams has started 77 games over his six years in the NFL with Dallas and Miami.

He’s coming off a season-ending ACL injury from last December with the Dolphins, but passed a physical during his visit to the Seahawks’ headquarters.

Coach Mike Macdonald says he expects Williams to compete for the starting center job on the Seahawks’ o-line, which is considered one of the biggest question marks on their roster.

Next up for Larrabee is joining UCLA’s golf team this upcoming season as a freshman.

The Bellingham Bells have their playoff matchup officially set for this weekend.

The Bells will face the Edmonton Riverhawks in the first round of the West Coast League North Divisional Playoffs.

The series starts in Edmonton on Saturday before coming here to Bellingham on Sunday.

The best-of-three series would wrap up at Joe Martin Field on Monday if necessary.

The Bells did lose to the Springfield Drifters 12-9 yesterday.

The Drifters pounded the Bells early with a seven-run first inning and never looked back.

Bellingham rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to pull within three, but it wasn’t enough, as Springfield clinched the last series of the regular season.

The Bells will look to avoid the sweep tonight in their final game ahead of the playoffs.

First pitch is at 6:35 from the Hamlin Sports Complex in Springfield.
