The WNBA announced today that it will add a team in Portland as its 15th franchise.
Portland previously entered the league as the expansion Fire in 2000 before folding after the 2002 season.
The new majority owners also own the NWSL’s Portland Thorns.
This is the first time the WNBA will return to a city it previously left, although the league has expressed an openness to do so again in the future.
Portland’s new team will begin play in the 2026 season.
