The Mariners kept what slim playoffs hopes they had alive today in an 8-1 win over the Astros.

Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Garver each homered and George Kirby threw six innings of one-run ball to earn the win.

The Astros struggled on both sides this afternoon, with more errors than hits.

The win came a day after Houston clinched the AL West in last night’s 4-3 win over Seattle.

The Mariners’ only way to make it to the playoffs now is by getting the third, and last, wild card spot in the American League.

They currently sit two games behind the Royals and Tigers, who are each tied for the second spot.

The M’s will continue to battle the odds on Friday, when they return home for the start of their final series of the year against the Oakland Athletics.

The Seattle Storm’s season has come to an end.

They lost to the Las Vegas Aces 83-76 last night to complete the first-round sweep of the best-of-three series.

Gabby Williams led the Storm with 20 points, but the 2x defending champion Aces took a 10 point lead out of the first quarter and never looked back.

Las Vegas now moves on to face the top-seeded New York Liberty in a highly-anticipated semi final matchup.

The Aces are trying to become the first WNBA team to win three titles in a row since 2000.

The Pac-12 is one school away from reestablishing itself as an official conference.

Utah State announced last night that it has accepted an invitation to join the Pac-12, effective on July 1, 2026.

Utah State’s decision makes it the fifth school to make the leap from the Mountain West to the Pac-12, joining Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State.

The Mountain West has now dropped to seven schools, which means it will need to add one more to remain an official conference.

One of the Seahawks’ key defensive pieces is getting closer to returning to the field.

Head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters that outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu will return to practice this week.

Nwosu hasn’t played after suffering a sprained MCL in the Seahawks’ last preseason game against the Browns.

If he were to return this Monday against Detroit, it would be his first regular season game since he tore his ACL in Week 7 of last season.

Macdonald added that the team has privately decided on a return for starting right tackle Abraham Lucas, but he won’t announce the timeline publicly just yet.

Meanwhile, the Lions are dealing with their share of injuries ahead of the primetime matchup on Monday.

They just lost defensive end Marcus Davenport for the rest of the season and announced that linebacker Derrick Barnes will miss a “significant amount of time.”
