LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Nearly a decade after visiting Lynden during his first campaign run in 2016, Donald Trump has left an unpaid bill with Whatcom County.

Trump at the time had won enough delegates through caucuses to secure the party nomination, but his nomination was not yet official.

The county has not heard back after asking Trump’s campaign to reimburse the county for security costs during his rally at the Lynden Fairgrounds in May of 2016.

The Whatcom County Council asked the campaign for $53,000 related to costs incurred at the time.

The council told KGMI in 2017 it did not plan to pursue the reimbursement any further.

My Bellingham Now has reached out to the Whatcom County Republican Party for comment but have not heard back at this time.

A tally by the county and The Bellingham Herald showed that law enforcement around the region racked up nearly $307,000 in expenses to help with event security.
