BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another party is looking to speed up the lawsuit over Bellingham’s Walmart homeless encampment.

The owner of Tullwood Apartments wants to become a party to the ongoing lawsuit between the City of Bellingham and encampment property owner Li-Ching Fang of Taiwan.

An attorney for the owner argues in court documents that the lawsuit isn’t moving fast enough, which has adversely impacted the health and safety of Tullwood’s residents. The city filed their suit against Fang in February, who later responded and claimed she has hired nuisance abatement specialists. A site assessment of the encampment was completed earlier this month by the specialists, inspectors and county health employees.

Tullwood Apartments is located across the street from Walmart and west of the encampment.

Multiple tenants who moved out within the past year told management that they left because the encampment put them in fear of their health and safety. Tullwood’s property manager adds that overall tenancy has dropped 6% within that same time period.

A motion hearing for the intervention request will be held on June 14.
