BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A drive-by shooting led to two arrests in downtown Bellingham.
Police say that a group of people were walking near E Magnolia St early Sunday, June 15 when someone in a car fired a gun at them. A bullet struck a man in the foot, and the group attempted to pursue what they believed was the suspect vehicle.
Instead, one of the group members shot at a rideshare vehicle that looked similar to the suspect’s car. The rideshare driver wasn’t hurt, and the group took off in their own car.
Officers briefly pursued the group before finally getting them to stop on N State St.
19-year-old Ricky Rodriguez of Bellingham was identified as the man suspected of shooting at the rideshare driver and was taken into custody. The group’s driver, identified as 20-year-old Alejandro Villa-Herrera, was also arrested on suspicion of rendering criminal assistance.
The original shooting victim, a 37-year-old man, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are asking anyone with information related to the initial drive-by shooting to contact their tip line.
