WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The unemployment rate is continuing to drop in Whatcom County.

The Washington State Employment Security Department reports that the county’s jobless rate was 4.1% last month, down from the 5% unemployment rate reported in August. In total, 4,524 people were reported as unemployed last month, which is down from August’s count by over 1,000 people.

The county’s jobless rate has remained steady from a year ago, when it sat at the same rate in September 2023. It’s still below the statewide unemployment rate of 4.8%.

Washington lost 2,000 jobs in September of this year, but its rate remained the same as last month due to a decreased labor force.
