BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Unionized healthcare workers in Bellingham are hitting the picket line following months of negotiations for a new contract.
SEIU Healthcare 1199NW says nearly 1,000 PeaceHealth workers are holding an informational picket on Thursday, Jan. 9.
The union has said it remains far apart from a contract with PeaceHealth administration after 12 bargaining sessions. Workers say the sticking points are related to livable wages and premium pay, safety issues stemming from short staffing and medical benefits.
The bargaining unit is made up of certified nursing assistants, lab assistants, patient access representatives, imaging technicians and others.
Thursday’s picket and rally will be held outside PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The union is inviting community members to join the rally and learn more about their fight for a contract.
