BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new arrest has been made in the investigation into a major drug trafficking ring in Whatcom County.

49-year-old Florentino Barril was arrested early Sunday morning in connection to the organization. It follows the arrests of five other co-conspirators last week.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says that the Whatcom Gang and Drug Task Force and the DEA began surveillance on downtown Bellingham drug use earlier this year. Their investigation found connections to a large Mexican drug trafficking operation.

Several search warrants executed on Wednesday yielded over 3 pounds of suspected fentanyl powder, a sawed-off shotgun, drug paraphernalia, and over $6,000 in cash. Investigators are still looking for two more co-conspirators, who will not be identified until they’re taken into custody.
