SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com)- Skagit County Emergency Management has issued immediate evacuation orders for people in and around the 100-year flood plain.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the Skagit River Basin due to potential levee and dam failures.

That includes parts of Mount Vernon, neighborhoods west of I-5, near Edgewater Park, the Skagit County Fairgrounds, and the commercial area near Walmart off I-5.

Historic flooding is occurring in the Skagit and Sauk Rivers and residents are warned to “Go Now. Do Not Wait.”

Some roads may be covered with water, so evacuees should plan a route to high ground away from the river immediately.

People in and around the towns of Rockport, Hamilton, Marblemount and Concrete should also evacuate immediately, if they haven’t done so already.

Those with livestock are encouraged to leave their animals untied on higher ground or contact the Skagit Conservation District for assistance.
