BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Drivers should expect lengthy delays over the next month near a busy intersection in north Bellingham.

Bellingham Public Works spokesperson Stefanie Cilinceon says crews are starting demolition work to install a new roundabout at the intersection of Meridian and W. Illinois.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane at times with flaggers directing traffic.

The roundabout project will replace the existing signal at the intersection next to the Meridian Haggen supermarket.

It will also add sidewalks and bike lanes to W. Illinois Street.

Cilinceon says drivers should expect significant slowdowns and recommends using different routes for the next month.
