WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Several critical local issues will be decided on in this Tuesday’s primary election.

Three fire districts in Whatcom County are asking voters for more funds to maintain their operations. Fire District 1 in Everson has a $13 million bond on the ballot to fund construction of a new station and increased staffing, Fire District 17 in Sandy Point is running back its proposed levy increase to relocate its station out of a flood zone and Fire District 21 – also known as North Whatcom Fire and Rescue – is proposing a levy lid lift to add key emergency services.

Meanwhile, the Lynden School District is re-running its $157.5 million bond to build a new Lynden High School and fund other services around the district.

You can find interviews with representatives from each of those groups to learn more about the ballot measures on the KGMI Radio page of our website MyBellinghamNow.com.

Ballots need to be placed in one of the county’s 23 ballot drop boxes by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and mail-in ballots must be postmarked by that same date.

So far, just over 14% of ballots have been returned according to the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office.
