BELLINGHAM, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) A new report lists Washington as the top state in the country for financial aid in colleges.

The National Association of State Student Grant and Aid Programs (NASSGAP) recently released their annual survey on state-sponsored student financial aid for the 2021-2022 academic year. It ranks Washington as the first in the nation for need-based financial aid, with just over $2,000 of grant aid per full-time, undergraduate student.

That’s over double the national average of $776 per student. The Washington Student Achievement Council attributes that ranking to the Washington College Grant program. It is available to families that make up to 100% of the state’s median family income, which qualifies about half of all Washington households.

The council says Washington is the first state to ever provide more than $2,000 of aid per undergrad.
