SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – An updated ballot count shows that Washington joined the rest of the country in shifting right this presidential election.
President-elect Donald Trump received just over 39% of votes from Washington residents in the November general election.
That’s roughly a quarter of a percentage point increase from the support he received in 2020.
Even if it was less pronounced here in the Evergreen state, the trend of Trump gaining support from 2020’s election is something that occurred in every state in the country. The margin of victory for democrats also shrank slightly in Washington state, with Kamala Harris garnering roughly half a percentage point less than Joe Biden.
The Seattle Times reports that Whatcom County was among 17 Washington counties that bucked that trend and leaned more toward democrats in 2024.
According to the Secretary of State’s Office, there are just under 2,000 ballots left to be counted.
Tuesday, Nov. 26, was the deadline for election results to be certified by each county before the Secretary of State finalizes the results by Dec. 5.
