OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new poll is showing a clear shift among Washington voters’ preferences in the presidential race.

Vice President Kamala Harris received 57% of votes in a poll conducted by SurveyUSA between Oct 9. and Oct. 14. Former President Donald Trump got 35% support, while 7% of respondents were undecided and 1% said they were voting for another candidate.

It’s a significant change from an earlier poll in mid-July, where 50% of state voters backed former Democratic nominee President Joe Biden, compared to 36% for Trump.

The poll showed Harris led on issues such as abortion, homelessness and climate change, while Trump had the edge on border security and cost of living. Still, cost of living was named as the most important issue to respondents when they cast their ballots.

As for the race for governor, democrat Bob Ferguson garnered 50% support among likely voters. That’s compared to 34% for Republican Dave Reichert and 16% who say they’re still undecided.

The current Attorney General Ferguson polled well with most every demographic, while Reichert had the edge among voters who listed crime or border security as their top concerns.

Democrats have held the governor’s office in Washington since 1985, which is the longest such streak in the country.

Voters will elect their first new governor in 12 years after Gov. Jay Inslee announced he won’t seek a fourth term.

King5, The Seattle Times and the University of Washington sponsored the poll, which had a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points and included responses from over 700 likely voters.
