WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Relief is coming for millions of people across the country who rely on food stamps.

A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration on Thursday, Nov. 6 to find the money to fully fund SNAP benefits for November.

The ruling gives the federal government until Friday to make the payments, though it’s unlikely users will see money on the debit cards they use for groceries that quickly.

The order came days after the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that SNAP payments would be reduced to roughly half of their regular amounts this month.

The state Department of Social and Health Services says it’s working to send out payments as soon as possible given the latest guidance.

Just over 10% of Whatcom County residents rely on food stamps as of last spring.
