OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington’s so-called “stripper’s bill of rights” will take effect in less than a month.

The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries filed updated rules this week protecting adult entertainers following legislation that was signed into law in March.

Under the new protections, entertainers will be kept safer and allowed to keep more of their earnings.

The safety improvements will require panic buttons in places where entertainers are alone with customers, keypad codes on dressing rooms and security guards during working hours.

It also limits the fees owners can charge the entertainers—a majority of which are independent contractors—and allows them to keep their tips without disclosing the amounts.

The new rules will go into effect on Jan. 2.
