OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington’s entire Congressional delegation is urging the president to help the state grapple with the effects of last fall’s “bomb cyclone.”
U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen were among those who sent a letter to President Trump on Wednesday, May 21.
They expressed disappointment and concern over FEMA denying the state’s request for disaster relief funds following the storm that struck in mid-November. The leaders say the damage it left is far too much for local governments to shoulder alone.
According to the governor’s office, the storm caused a roughly $34 million in damage to public highways, public utilities and electrical grids across the state.
It also killed two people in King and Snohomish counties and damaged over 20 homes in Sudden Valley here in Bellingham.
The delegates are asking the Trump administration to immediately approve the state’s request for relief aid.
