OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington has joined a multistate lawsuit against the Trump administration and others for a new ruling that may redistribute thousands of guns in the U.S.

State Attorney General Nick Brown’s office claims that forced reset triggers (FRTs) are a dangerous mechanism that allow shooters to achieve military machinegun firepower.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms classified FRTs as machineguns but a new settlement agreement says they will no longer enforce their prohibition and redistribute the confiscated weapons.

Brown’s office says the suit aims to prevent that redistribution, as FRTs are illegal to possess under federal law.

The ATF says that there has been a 1,400% increase in machinegun fire incidents between 2019 and 2021.

Washington state has joined the suit along with 14 states and Washington, D.C. as of June 9.
