OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Virtual events continue this week to shed light on some of the most notorious invasive species in the state.

National Invasive Species Awareness Week runs through Sunday, March 3. Events in Washington have been virtual, with state experts speaking on topics such as European green crabs and spongy moths. European green crabs have been especially destructive in Whatcom County.

The Dept. of Fish and Wildlife says that over 86,000 crabs were removed from the North Puget Sound waters since 2022.

The week rounds out with discussions on the Mediterranean oak borer on Thursday and Border Patrol inspections on Friday.

Space is limited for the virtual webinars, and registration is encouraged. For more information, the public can go here.
