WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County residents can expect a late spring rain storm starting on Sunday, June 2.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle says an atmospheric river will bring up to 2 inches of rainfall in Bellingham and 3 inches in Lynden from Sunday, June 2 through Tuesday, June 4. High winds are also in the forecast, with gusts that could reach up to 25 mph during the storm.

The storm system could cause some ponding on streets and highways, so drivers are warned to drive cautiously next week.

NWS says local rivers will run unusually high across western Washington, with some approaching flood stage.

The Northwest River Forecast Center shows that the Nooksack River will likely remain well below any sort of flood danger, but the Skagit River could reach an action stage.

The storm will eventually develop into warmer weather, with NWS forecasting high temperatures of over 70 degrees in Bellingham and up to 80 degrees in Lynden starting next Thursday.
