BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Western Washington University is alerting its community after several instances of antisemitic graffiti were reported on campus.
The university’s Chief Diversity Officer Jacqueline Hughes said in a letter to students and staff that the vandalism has ranged from swastikas to hate speech over the past few weeks.
Hughes says there’s no evidence that the graffiti was done by a student or targeted at any specific individual. She adds that the vandalism was immediately removed after it was reported, and university police will continue to follow any leads they receive.
Hughes also reinforced that the school is committed to protecting the safety of its students.
Her message came in response to the recent ICE arrest of a Columbia University graduate who took part in protests against the war in Gaza and now faces the threat of deportation.
The school urges anyone who witnesses hate speech or bias to report it and seek support if needed.
To report hate speech or bias, submit a report at equity.wwu.edu/sebrt. For immediate safety concerns, contact the WWU University Police Department (UPD) at (360) 650-3555 or upd@wwu.edu.
