BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two student deaths have been reported at Western Washington University (WWU) within the last 24 hours.

In a letter to students, WWU President Sabah Randhawa said a student was killed in an apparent fall from the Nash Hall dorm on the night of Oct. 9.

Law enforcement has determined the death is not a result of foul play, and that there is no danger to the community.

“I am heartbroken to learn that we have lost one of our students. On behalf of the WWU community, our hearts go out to the students’ family, friends, and classmates. We understand that this news is hard to take in, and we encourage anyone who needs support to use the resources available through the university,” President Sabah Randhawa said in the WWU news release.

In an email sent by President Randhawa at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 10, the university announced a second death at Alma Clark Glass Hall. At this time, the two deaths are not suspected to be connected. Information on how the second death occurred has not been released.

The university is directly referring students to the WWU Counseling and Wellness Center. Student affairs professionals are also available to provide support to those who need it. The university encourages struggling students and community members to reach out.

Students may contact the university’s Counseling and Wellness Center at (360) 650-3164. WWU employees are invited to access the university’s Employee Assistance Program at (877) 313-4455.
