WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Here is another reminder to be careful if you’re handling fireworks this 4th of July weekend.
The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire danger level in our area was upgraded from “moderate” to “high” on Thursday, July 3.
The agency says the change reflects ongoing hot, dry and windy conditions that increase the risk of wildfires. It’s asking the community to practice safety around fireworks over the next few days to limit fire danger.
Make sure you use fireworks in areas where they’re legal and in cleared, fire-safe areas.
Wet down any grass before lighting them and keep a hose or bucket of water nearby. Never use fireworks in or near dry grass, fields or wooded areas. And make sure to properly soak used fireworks before disposing of them.
You can also avoid the trouble all together and catch the city’s 4th of July fireworks show at Zuanich Point Park starting at 10:30 p.m.
