WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A quick reminder of a community meeting later this week for the new Whatcom County Jail.
County officials will be holding a second community engagement meeting on Thursday, March 19 to give an update for the public on the current status of jail construction.
In council meetings earlier this month, it came to light that funds for the jail have not reached the projected heights, leading to some reevaluation of what this new jail will look like. The county council has moved to hold biweekly discussions with Justice Project officials after the budget issues came to light several weeks ago.
The engagement meeting will give an opportunity for members of the public to provide feedback on the current scope of the facility.
Executive Satpal Sidhu previously announced his office wanted a plan for scope and budget for the jail by Spring 2026.
Thursday’s meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the Lynden City Annex Chamber on 4th Street.
