WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Scam callers are continuing to terrorize Whatcom County residents.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said that another recent attempt was thwarted by a quick-thinking individual.

That person received a call from someone claiming to be a Sheriff’s deputy who asked them to dial a non-emergency number to handle warrants or citations.

Sensing that something wasn’t right, the person asked for the deputy’s name and contacted the actual individual at the Sheriff’s Office. The real deputy confirmed that the scammer was “spoofing” a non-emergency line.

WCSO is reminding people that their employees will never contact citizens over the phone to make any type of payment.
