BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Whatcom Humane Society (WHS) is holding its annual Dog Days of Summer Festival on Sunday, Aug. 25.

Canine contests, pet-themed games, an animal caricaturist, over 45 vendors, vegetarian food trucks and a beer garden hosted by Paws For A Beer are all highlights dog owners and festival goers can anticipate.

KAFE’s host Dave Walker attends the event every year and looks forward to what the humane society has in store this year.

“If you want to find a new vet, dog treat or collar it’s all there. It’s just a ton of fun for dogs,” says Walker. “My favorite part is the caricaturist and my dog Dexter’s favorite is ‘Hound Hill’, a great big pile of dirt full of treats.”

Contests for dogs and their owners will happen from 11:15 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., including musical chairs, costumes, best ears, owner/dog look-a-like, licking and eating competitions. Visit the Dog Days of Summer Facebook page for a detailed contest schedule.

An addition to this year’s Dog Days event is a donation match offered by one of the WHS sponsors. Every donation made before Dog Days is over will be doubled until the organization meets its $10,000 donation cap. All donations will go directly to the WHS and the animals they care for.

“The WHS does great work for the county, it’s so much more than most people know. They handle animal control, they have the animal wildlife center and a farm facility, they cover the whole gamut when it comes to taking care of animals in Whatcom County,” Walker said.

The event will take place on the 9-acre field behind the WHS Division Street Shelter and nearby businesses are lending their lots for event parking. Entrance and admission to the festival this year is entirely free.

Our friends at KAFE 104.1 will be at the event, so be sure to say hello to Dave Walker and his dog Dexter as they take part in the fun.
