WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two shelters in Whatcom County are seeking volunteers for severe weather nights this winter.
The Whatcom Volunteer Center is recruiting on behalf of the Whatcom County Health Department for the downtown Bellingham severe weather shelter. Additionally, Ferndale’s severe weather shelter is seeking volunteers.
The agency hopes to develop a pool of on-call volunteers to run the shelters when the temperature drops below 32 degrees outside.
Notices for will be sent out at least 48 hours in advance while the shelter is active from late November until March. Volunteers will work three or four-hour shifts in the evening or in the morning and will need a background check and a food handlers permit.
The Bellingham shelter will be at the Lutheran Church on North Forest Street, hosting up to 70 adults per night.
