BELLINGHAM, WA. – (mybellinghamnow.com) A Winter Storm Warning will take effect tonight as more snow is forecast for Whatcom County.

The National Weather Service in Seattle says that the Bellingham area could see 2 to 4 inches of snow fall between 10 p.m. tonight through 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Forecasters say that we will most likely see no more than an inch across the county, depending on how quickly warmer air moves into our region.

But areas north and east, such as Lynden, could see up to 6 inches of snow by the end of this week.

Ice could also cause travel issues across Whatcom County roadways, particularly on Wednesday.

There is also a Winter Storm Warning in effect for the north Cascades and valleys of Whatcom County from 4 p.m. today through 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18.

Elevations above 1,500 feet could see up to 40 inches of snow.

If you are in need of a place to stay warm, there are a few options for you in Whatcom County.

Bellingham’s Severe Weather Shelter on North State Street will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. through Wednesday.
