BELLINGHAM, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) It looks like we are through the worst of it here in Whatcom County, but some nasty winter weather is forecast for the next couple of days.

The National Weather Service is forecasting an additional one inch of snow in the Bellingham area this afternoon, Thursday, January 18th.

We are also expecting to see a wintry mix of snow, rain and sleet overnight and into Friday morning, January 19th, before it warms up to the low 40s on Friday afternoon.

With the warmer wet weather in the forecast, do what you can to clear any storm drains that you know of near your home if possible.

This will help prevent flooding of the roadways as the snow melts this weekend.

Only one major crash was reported on Wednesday, January 17th, as many drivers avoided Whatcom County roadways.

The Washington State Patrol says a semi-truck went sideways on I-5, temporarily blocking the northbound off-ramp to Main Street in Ferndale just after 4 p.m.

Bellingham Police are urging drivers to remain cautious if they head out on the roads to avoid additional accidents.

Additional overnight warming shelters continue to operate across Bellingham, Ferndale, and the Lummi Nation.

Bellingham’s overnight severe weather shelter will be open through 8 a.m. Friday for those who will continue to stay at their State Street location.

Ferndale’s weather shelter at the United Church of Ferndale will have similar rules in effect but will close during the day on Thursday.

Overnight guests will be welcomed back in at 5:30 p.m.

The Lummi Nation’s Cold Weather Shelter is available for tribal members through 8 a.m. on Friday.

Transportation is available on the reservation through Lummi Transit.

The shelters at Civic Field and Base Camp in Bellingham remain open through February for overnight guests.
